Post 325: Open Space Arts Emerging Artists April Show

Open Space Arts Emerging Artists April Show

Friday, March 31, 2023. The opening art reception for the "Emerging Artists" show was held at Open Space Arts at the Stonebridge Shopping Center - 15000 #140 Potomac Town Center, Woodbridge, VA. Well over 100 guests were in attendance with the student artists and their families as well as Prince William Art Society members.

Emerging Artists 2023

I have to say "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY OPEN SPACE ARTS!" Today, April 2, 2023 is our one year anniversary of being open (in a continuous year)! We were open 3 weeks in November and December of 2021, but the gallery opened on Saturday, April 2 2022 and has been open since, displaying the art of local Prince William County artists and art groups, like the Prince William Art Society (PWAS). PWAS and their army of volunteers has 'manned' the desk and volunteer scheduling for the gallery portion of Open Space Arts (OSA).

The Emerging Artists Show will be an annual art show in the spring. This year's show features the art of students and young artists from 15 to 25 years old from around the county and various schools/colleges.

There is also a section of the gallery set aside for past People's Choice Award winning paintings. When visitors come to OSA, we often ask for them to vote their favorite art pieces - and here are some of those past winners.

Let's take a look at what these talented individuals have on display for you this month - Emerging Artists May 29 - April 30, 2023.

Many of the Emerging Artists came up and talked about their art and what motivates them. As you can see from above, Prince William County got talent!

And on top of that, the Prince William Art Society offers an annual scholarship for high school seniors that are going to pursue the arts in college, so that is something for these students to be aware of (EARLY each year).

It is definitely a learning experience for the youngsters to see what is involved in getting your art up on the walls! The students are also asked to work with our veteran art volunteers at the gallery on weekends to give them real-life experience, confidence and that sometimes requested 'community service' time.

Come by this month's show and see the art!

  1. It has been a rewarding experience to be a part of PWAS and the opening of OSA this past year. I've gotten to the point where I can identify several of the artists behind the work just by looking at it. Proud to have helped grow the membership by inviting passerby's into the gallery that eventually joined. Through hard work, ups and downs we have survived and thrived with support of our volunteers, the community, local businesses and county leadership. Committee leadership has created outstanding art exhibitions and exhibition receptions. Thank you to all.
