The Prince William County Arts Council is now calling for nominations for the annual Kathleen K. Seefeldt Awards. The Seefeldt Awards were created over 25 years ago to honor those who sustain Kathleen K. Seefeldt’s legacy of public service and support for the cultural arts of Greater Prince William County. Nominations will be accepted through April 17, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.

Persons and organizations from Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park who live, work or volunteer in these locales may be nominated. Nominations are based on significant or distinguished contribution to arts in the region. The candidate must be 18 years or older at the time of nomination and be available to attend the Awards Ceremony. Previous award recipients who have won in the last five years in the category for the 2022 nomination are not eligible.

Award nominations may be made by anyone in the following categories:

  • Outstanding Arts Educator
  • Outstanding Business Supporter of the Arts
  • Outstanding Individual Artist
  • Outstanding Arts Organization
  • Outstanding Patron
  • Outstanding Volunteer

The nomination form is available on the PWC Arts Council website pwcartscouncil.org or by emailing Susan Bardenhagen, Event Chair, Prince William Arts Council, at STEAM.arts4life@gmail.com.

Self-nominations are acceptable. Those interested must provide a one-page narrative addressing the candidate’s contributions, as outlined in the criteria listed on the form. Nominators should notify the candidate of the submission. Candidates may be asked to provide additional details once an initial nomination is made.

The judging panel will consist of previous award winners and local community leaders. The awards ceremony is open to the public. It will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, on George Mason University’s Science & Technology Campus in Manassas. Those wishing to attend must RSVP to the email provided.

Kathleen K. Seefeldt Awards

The Prince William County Arts Council chose to name the awards in honor of Mrs. Seefeldt because of her long history of service to the county and the state. During her tenure as Chair of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, the Arts Council was established.  She was instrumental in the development of the tri-partite agreement that led to the creation of the Hylton Performing Arts Center. After leaving the Board, she has held several appointed positions on state government commissions as well as volunteer work with a number of charities. Mrs. Seefeldt continues her service to our community and continues to participate in the planning of the event.

Post 159: An Evening at the Seefeldt Awards in PWC

An Evening at the Seefeldt Awards in PWC

Thursday, May 12, 2022, Manassas, Virginia. A few of the Prince William Art Society members made the short trip to the Hylton Performing Arts Center on the George Mason University's Science and Technology Campus at 10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas, VA. The evening started with a red carpet photo session but the real stars of the evening are the award recipients and nominees.

The Prince William County Arts Council was created on October 28, 1992 to stimulate the growth and excellence in the performing and visual arts - so the awards celebrated this evening were also a celebration of the 30th anniversary (birthday) of PWCAC.

The Kathleen K. Seefeldt Award for Arts Excellence was established over 15 years ago by the Prince William County Arts Council to recognize and celebrate the artists, arts organizations, volunteers, educators and businesses that build upon and sustain Ms. Seefeldt’s legacy of public service and support for the cultural arts.

Persons 18 years of age or older and organizations from Greater Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park who live, work or volunteer in these locales may be nominated for the Seefeldt Award. Nominations should be made based on their significant or distinguished contribution to the arts in the region.

(Details taken from the PWCAC website at https://pwcartscouncil.org/seefeldt-awards-3/)

It was a lovely evening with very interesting bios read on each of the winners and it included heartfelt love of the arts of all genres. Jay Torres, an Arts Council and PWAS member, was the Master of Ceremony. Of special note was the opening "Prince William County - Poetically Speaking" and "Arts Never End" from Kim B. Miller with the In Memoriam including Jim Gallagher, a long time PWCAC and PWAS member, lost a short time ago. The Prince William Art Society is planning to also feature the art of Jim Gallagher in an upcoming art show at Open Space Arts at Stonebridge.
