Post 516: PWAS Now Showing Artworks at the Montclair Library

PWAS Now Showing Artworks at the Montclair Library

Saturday, November 2, 2024 through about December 31, 2024. The Prince William Art Society (PWAS) members will have artworks showing at the Montclair Library by about 14 local artists. See the show at 5049 Waterway Dr, Montclair, VA 22025 and while browsing for a great book, take the time to also browse the delightful art presented in the library.

PWAS Art Store

The art on display is for sale, and there is a price list posted along with a QR Code. The PWC libraries do not handle the sale of the artworks, thus the Prince William Art Society has available to interested persons an online Art Store on our website:

https://www.princewilliamartsociety.com/category/montclair-library

All artwork must remain for display for the length of the show. If any questions, please contact store@princewilliamartsociety.com

The artwork will immediately show that it is SOLD on the website and the Artist will work with the Buyer to either pickup at the show end date OR arrange with the Buyer for pickup/drop off. Please print your online receipt.

To browse the PWAS Art Store, use the Category filters available in the navigation.

Shortly after an art sale, a Prince William Art Society member will place a "Red Dot" on the artwork which is the universal sign in art communities that an artwork has sold.

The Prince William Art Society

The Prince William Art Society is a nonprofit art group in Prince William County that got its start in 1971. The membership is populated with artists of all backgrounds, all art levels, and quite a variety of art styles. The group frequently shows art in various venues all around the Woodbridge, Haymarket, Manassas, Gainsville, Nokesville, Lake Ridge, Occoquan, and more areas and beyond.

PWAS has annual art events that the members participate in every year including the Tall Oaks Community Center Spring and Fall Art Shows, Arts Alive in Manassas, various festivals like the Bee Festival in Manassas, wineries like Sunshine Ridge Winery and an upcoming 3 Fox Winery, and is constantly expanding our reach.

PWAS holds monthly meetings (except in December) on the 4th Monday of the month at the Tall Oaks Community Center at 12298 Cotton Mill Road, Woodbridge, VA at 7:30pm. The public is welcome to attend and we definitely urge new, upcoming, retirees, and elderly artists to come check out the art group!

The art group has begun offering a variety of art classes open to the members and the public offered for free. So far this year (2024), PWAS has had 10 classes which are announced and registered on their PWAS website at https://www.princewilliamartsociety.com/register and on their PWAS Artistry Spin Blog at https://artistryspin.blogspot.com/ and on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/princewilliamartsociety

Post 507: Creating Beauty from Chaos Upcoming PWAS Meeting

Creating Beauty from Chaos Upcoming PWAS Meeting

Come on by the next Prince William Art Society's (PWAS) next meeting on Monday, October 28th at 7:30pm at the Tall Oaks Community Center in Woodbridge and enjoy our guest artist, M. Jane Johnson. Also on the agenda is our Lime Challenge and what our art group has been up to. And we have a new PWAS member art show call for art.

MJJ Written in Code

Creating Beauty from Chaos

The Prince William Art Society will meet October 28th at the Tall Oaks Community Center, 12298 Cotton Mill Drive, Woodbridge VA at 7:30 pm. The meeting will begin with a program by M. Jane Johnson who will share her work and how she creates one of her paintings. Meetings are free and open to the public, who are cordially invited to attend.

MJJ In a Swirl

M. Jane Johnson uses a process-driven technique when she is creating her work.  She has learned to let the painting tell its story and carry her along on the path to completion.  As she works, she will photograph the work and use the value study to help guide her in the next phase of the painting.  She mixes various acrylic gels to create textures to play opposite collage she has added, so each piece is an intricate weaving of color, pattern, texture, and it's own history. As it moves closer to completion, she will start honing down the chaotic process.

MJJ Floral 2

Ms. Johnson has a BFA in Fine Arts with a focus on drawing and painting. She studied art in Italy and took many classes at the Art League School in Alexandria, VA, and her work is in international, corporate, and private collections.  Twelve of her paintings are in the Heart Clinic at Children’s National Medical Center.  She has had successful solo shows at the Art League Gallery in Alexandria, at the Arts Club of Washington in DC, at Artist & Makers in Rockville, and at the Workhouse Arts Center, as well as having participated in group shows and art fairs.  Ms. Johnson teaches at the Workhouse Arts Center and the McLean Project for the Arts.

PWAS Lime Challenge

In September, PWAS sent out a Lime Challenge artwork challenge based on this solo lime sitting on a table while we were taking part in the Arts Alive Art Show in Manassas. So at this PWAS meeting, all members are requested to bring in their Limes! I know some of you created artworks based upon your green vision. See Lime Challenge. So be sure and bring in your lime artwork and let's pick our favorite.
