Blog Schedule and About Blog Posts
Published: September 7, 2021 Updated: August 27, 2024
Here are some of the typical blog posts that we have on the PWAS Artistry Spin Blog that help show not only the events and shows that the Prince William Art Society has coming, but after the event with the photos corresponding to it. Just as important, are all the PWAS members themselves, and their involvement in the art culture of PWAS AND Prince William County and beyond. See the various ways below that you and your art can be shown on this blog and across social media.
Art Topics and What's on Your Easel?
Periodically, the Blog Admin sends out a question for the PWAS membership and for those members that will, they return the information so that a Blog post can be built. Be sure to send the required information as requested. These are Scheduled Posts that come out about once a month. After the post is published, the Blog Admin then reposts it on Facebook, X/Twitter, and Pinterest - giving each artist even more exposure.
*Give yourself extra promotion by reposting these posts to your own social media as well.
PWAS Members: Send your answer to the Art Topic/Question, along with the requested format, image, etc by the Due Date posted in order to be included. Typically we request the "Tentative Name", size, medium(s) and of course, your name and a URL if you like. Often we include a very short blurb on where you think the work is going.
Example: What's On Your Easel Right Now?
Example: What PWAS Members Are Working On
Example: To Gesso or Not to Gesso, That is the Question
- Side Note: If the painting in progress is going in an upcoming show and the required info allows it, say what show its going into!
Inside the Studio of...
A fun blog post for PWAS members, are where the PWAS Artist shows where they create their art. A form can be sent to the artist if they request one from the Blog Admin. Everyone LOVES seeing each other's studio creative spaces! Even if its your dining room table!!
PWAS Members: See the below examples and create your post. Send it to the Blog Admin along with several photos.
Example: Inside the Studio of Zee Berrios
Example: Inside the Studio of Sandra McClelland Lewin
Artist Interviews
In the past, PWAS Artist interviews have been conducted and we are always interested in these special featured PWAS posts. Please request the artist interview form from the Blog Admin or follow along with the examples below.
An image of the Artist in studio is preferred, but alternative image(s) can be discussed. The Interviewer's questions to the artist can be varied, depending on many things: their art education vs self-taught, art styles, experience, etc.
PWAS Members: Request a form or see the below examples to format your blog post. Send to the Blog Admin along with several photos.
Example: You'll Never Guess What Miriam Ahmed Uses in Her Mixed Media Artwork
Example: Artist Interview with Penny Shaw
The Art with the Artist Posts
We LOVE seeing these types of post too! When we are at a PWAS Show and/or Event, its a great idea to get pictures of all the artists next to their art. Especially at art receptions!
Example: The Art with the Artist of PWAS 1
Get Your Art in the PWAS Art Store
In the PWAS website, we have a PWAS Art Store and the members are welcome to send ONE photo of an artwork that must be for sale. But they need to send in a great photo to show on the website and a second photo to show how the back it wired. The Art Store often ends up in various posts for PWAS.
PWAS Members: This is for ALL PWAS members, is nonjuried, and the artwork CAN be sold directly through the website. If the artwork is sold elsewhere, the member MUST let the Online Store know at store@princewilliamartsociety.com. The artwork CAN be replaced. The title, size, medium, price and a great description are required and can be sent to that same email.
Upcoming PWAS Events, Member Events, and NON-PWAS Events or Shows
Upcoming Art Events are Scheduled Posts as the events occur, so if you'd like to show you are in an upcoming PWAS events - let me know! I plan to periodically email out the question "What's on Your Radar?" Answer the email with your news so I can build a PWAS blog post!
PWAS MEMBERS
Send your individual upcoming events (outside of PWAS) prior to the posting dates, do not wait until the last minute! Occasionally the Blog Admin already has blog posts queued up, so the earlier the info received, the better.
Email Request Example: What Do PWAS Members Have on Their Radars?
NON-PWAS EVENTS, NEWS, SHOWS NOTE
If two or more PWAS members are both showing in a local non-PWAS show, event, or other noteworthy art exhibit, send me the DETAILS and photos well in advance of the show. The Blog Admin is not responsible for writing of these posts, but would be happy to share the info, photo, and flyer for you. In other words, you are the writer of the post.
What to Include in Your Blog Post
INCLUDE in your Email Subject: EVENTS
Identify the Topic of your art event and include the title, location, date, short blurb and URL. And at least ONE picture must be included which could be a flyer or logo.
*The PWAS Artistry Spin Blog reserves the right to blog post on any PWAS Event as often as needed, and to SHARE on Social Media as often as possible to help get the word out and bring more visitors, and you are encouraged to SHARE the Blog URL post too, including Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram and Pinterest. Even more needed for NON-PWAS events!

Board Notes
A blog post from any of the PWAS Board Members, the President, VP, etc. Pretty much we will post these any time they come in.
Board positions are held for 2 years, so when their terms are completed, a blog post of or from all new positions: expectations, recapping the members, etc. An Image of the Board Members is needed.
PWAS Plein Air Posse
What is the PWAS Plein Air Posse? They are a 'subgroup' of the PWAS Membership that LOVE getting out in the great outdoors and painting LIVE. There isn't really a signup or any rules for the group, its just those members that want to gather at various locations in and around the county and be in the open air and painting what they see.
That being said, Artistry Spin would be happy to post anything that the group is doing, art shows they are attending featuring their art, information on the places they are going, when to meet, etc. Most definitely, the blog would love to show the artwork their group creates! Contact the Blog Admin.
PWAS Meeting Recap
PWAS meetings are (usually) about once a month on the 4th Monday at 7: 30 pm. A blog post recapping the most recent PWAS Meeting - shooting for a post within a week after the meeting and we typically include pictures of the guest speaker.
- If the PWAS Board wants to include a recap from their perspective with key points, the Blog Admin would be happy to include that in the post
PWAS Event Recaps
A blog post which should mostly pictorially recap any PWAS Event, hopefully within 2 weeks of the event. PWAS Members: If you have pictures of the event that you want included, send as soon as possible to our contact email, subject title EVENT PICS. Photography Credits should follow.
PWAS Workshops, Classes, Plein Air Painting Events
Remember, the Blog Admin is not always at every event. It is up to the PWAS members that are there to photo, video, gather the details and SEND the info to the Blog Admin to post!
Example: Bluebells and the Plein Air Posse
Example: Drawing with Donna Merchant
PWAS Member Awards and Recognition and Woohoos!
WE LOVE these blog posts! This is a post about PWAS Members kudos - did you win an Oscar? Ok, maybe not an Oscar but won 1st, 2nd, 3rd in an art competition or were "Artist of the Month", "Best in Show", "Honorable Mention" somewhere? LET THE BLOG ADMIN KNOW! No one can promote YOU better than YOU but we'll try to help and get those blog posts out whenever possible.
Was your artwork selected to show in a juried event? Let us know - that's to be celebrated too! But provide the DETAILS! We know that PWAS members are out there on and off the beaten art paths so share the load!
Example: PWAS Member, Anna Gatling wins 3rd Place at FCCA Art Show
Vacationing or Visiting Somewhere Awesome?
A Blog post about where you are vacationing, a gallery you are going to or a class you are attending, and have images that are awe inspiring and MUST be painted by you or to encourage someone else at PWAS to paint? The PWAS Member writes the post and provides the images. Let the Blog Writers know and we will work with you to make it happen. As always, we need to know the who, what, when, where, how and why about the suggestion.
- An interesting proposition is to share a photo or two with the membership and allow them to use your picture as a reference photo for an artwork as long as the photo use with permission by credits are given! That could be an interesting blog post in itself!
PWAS New Member Intro
A Blog post with a new PWAS Member(s) intro. Format: Name, Medium, a blurb about you, and why and how you found PWAS and what you want to do. Include an image of you (preferred) with your artwork or in studio would be GREAT! Spin will post as soon as possible! Welcome to PWAS!
- The new member will need to do the introduction (the writing of the post) with a photo of themselves and/or their work.
Member Advice and Suggestions
The Blog Admin does have members suggest blog posts on occasion, which is fine. But better yet, if you know more about the subject - go ahead and write it yourself! Want to collaborate on it? Suggest that!
We've also received a photo out of the blue and wondered what we're supposed to do with that? There must be text to go with the photo. What is it about? Who, what, when, where, why, how, dates, times - inquiring minds want to know.
- Remember: Content is KING on the internet! That means text, keywords about the topic and photos. As previously noted: Who, What, When, Where, How and Why should always be addressed.
Don't Spill the Paint
An occasional Blog post with an art joke or funny image or illustration. If you send the Blog writers something, we'll give you the credit for it.
Example: Otis Stanley's PWAS Comics #6
Other Stuff...
Want to Write a Blog Post?
PWAS Members: Please do! Especially if its a "How to do..." something or video. Let the Blog Writers know what you are planning and we will work with you to make it happen on Spin! See above in the Typical PWAS Artistry Spin Blog Outline section.
Rants, raves, opinions - all are fine as long as no one is harmed in the writing of the message and is tastefully worded. Ghost writer? That is fine too, your identity can be simply PWAS Member.
Share your knowledge and use this Blog to help PROMOTE YOU too!
- Of special note: When the blog post is mainly about a specific PWAS member, it is a good idea to respond to any comments that are directed to you! And regarding that, the Blog Comments are subject to approval when they come in, so the spammers and duplicate posts are deleted.
