Post 365: What's Going on at OSA

What's Going on at OSA

The most important persons that need to know what's going on at their local gallery are the artists themselves. It takes time to do artwork. From conception and planning, to the actual work, then adding in the finishing issues like drying time and varnishing could involve months or a year depending on the medium used. Therefore, it helps for artists to know what art shows they might want to apply for, well in advance.

List of 2023-2025 Art Shows at Open Space Arts

Please note that the Open Space Arts gallery is huge opportunity for all Prince William County artists 18 or older and the only other requirement is that the artist be either a resident of PWC OR be a member of an art group in PWC. All artwork is juried. Calls for Art (C4A) are sent out so you need to be on our email list, see https://www.princewilliamartsociety.com/call-for-art, or as a member of an art group, you should be notified via their leadership.

Post 319: 2023 Kathleen K. Seefeldt Awards for Arts Excellence Nomination

2023 Kathleen K. Seefeldt Awards for Arts Excellence Nomination

This is an annual award given in multiple categories in honor of the public service and support of the cultural artist in Prince William County.

https://princewilliamliving.com/nominations-for-annual-kathleen-k-seefeldt-awards-are-now-open/

The Prince William County Arts Council is now calling for nominations for the annual Kathleen K. Seefeldt Awards. The Seefeldt Awards were created over 25 years ago to honor those who sustain Kathleen K. Seefeldt’s legacy of public service and support for the cultural arts of Greater Prince William County. Nominations will be accepted through April 17, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.

Persons and organizations from Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park who live, work or volunteer in these locales may be nominated. Nominations are based on significant or distinguished contribution to arts in the region. The candidate must be 18 years or older at the time of nomination and be available to attend the Awards Ceremony. Previous award recipients who have won in the last five years in the category for the 2022 nomination are not eligible.

Award nominations may be made by anyone in the following categories:

  • Outstanding Arts Educator
  • Outstanding Business Supporter of the Arts
  • Outstanding Individual Artist
  • Outstanding Arts Organization
  • Outstanding Patron
  • Outstanding Volunteer

The nomination form is available on the PWC Arts Council website pwcartscouncil.org or by emailing Susan Bardenhagen, Event Chair, Prince William Arts Council, at STEAM.arts4life@gmail.com.

Self-nominations are acceptable. Those interested must provide a one-page narrative addressing the candidate’s contributions, as outlined in the criteria listed on the form. Nominators should notify the candidate of the submission. Candidates may be asked to provide additional details once an initial nomination is made.

The judging panel will consist of previous award winners and local community leaders. The awards ceremony is open to the public. It will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, on George Mason University’s Science & Technology Campus in Manassas. Those wishing to attend must RSVP to the email provided.

Kathleen K. Seefeldt Awards

The Prince William County Arts Council chose to name the awards in honor of Mrs. Seefeldt because of her long history of service to the county and the state. During her tenure as Chair of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, the Arts Council was established.  She was instrumental in the development of the tri-partite agreement that led to the creation of the Hylton Performing Arts Center. After leaving the Board, she has held several appointed positions on state government commissions as well as volunteer work with a number of charities. Mrs. Seefeldt continues her service to our community and continues to participate in the planning of the event.

Post 307: Meet Open Space Arts Artists and Art!

Meet Open Space Arts Artists and Art!

Friday, March 3, 2023 - Open Space Arts (OSA), the opening reception was held on a chilly, rainy evening, yet it was attended very well. The art show is called "Page Turning Images Found in Women's Literature" and is open from March 1 to March 26, 2023. There are 29 Prince William County artists with their artwork on display at the gallery, found at 15000 #140 Potomac Town Center, Woodbridge, VA between Ulta and The Loft.

OSA Art Receptions to Meet Local Talent

The Prince William County Arts Council is a sponsor of Open Space Arts to help promote ALL of the arts in Prince William County. The Prince William Art Society (PWAS) is a group of artists in the county that manages the OSA staff of volunteers, the art shows for LOCAL PWC artists, jurying process, art receptions, and art hanging.

Art receptions are tentatively held monthly, typically around the art show opening and thus far, open to the public (free). Often, beverages and snacks/refreshments are offered, and the entertainment will vary. We have had singers, dancers, live music, poetry, readings, and more. Any private receptions or parties will be noted at the door.

Post 223: Open Space Arts Gallery Hispanic Heritage Art Celebration Reception 1

Open Space Arts Gallery Hispanic Heritage Art Celebration Reception Part 1

On Friday, September 23, 2022 at Stonebridge, the art gallery Open Space Arts invited the public to attend their Hispanic Heritage Art Celebration Reception from 6 to 8 pm. And the public showed up! A couple hundred people enjoyed this wonderful art event in Woodbridge, Virginia!

Photos from the Reception by Member Artists

Open Space Arts (OSA) is a gallery supported by the Prince William County Arts Council in partnership with the Prince William Art Society (PWAS) located at 15000 #140 Potomac Town Center. The gallery was open a few weeks just prior to Christmas in 2021, and then PWAS was invited to come back and run the gallery in March of 2022. In April, the first Open Space Arts show started and every month since has shown a different variety of art in all its colors, styles, methods and mediums. The Visual Arts in PWC is alive and well and in your backyard!

Many shows are open to all of the Prince William County artists - they must be 18 or older.  So that means, if you live in PWC OR you are a member of a PWC art group or photography group, those artists are welcome to submit fine art to the gallery when a Call for Art is sent out, and then a selection of the best of the artwork is juried into the show.

The art is changed out, approximately monthly and the current show is called Hispanic Heritage Art Celebration - all of the art is by flavored with Hispanic and Latino themes. This show will be open to the public until October 16, 2022. About 30 artists are currently on display. The gallery is FREE to see, and the artwork is for sale.

The photographs below were taken by Otis Stanley and Tom Payne of the reception held on Friday.

Also note that the Pet Festival will take place on Saturday, October 15 and the Prince William Art Society members will have a tent up in front of the Open Space Arts gallery with artwork of our best furry friends AND other animals we love.

Come by the gallery, Wednesday - Saturday 12 to 7 and Sunday 12 to 5 to see the outstanding artwork on display by local artists. Please like, share, comment, Follow the Blog, and let us know what you think!
