Post 455: Art Group Meeting in Woodbridge, Monday, April 22

Art Group Meeting in Woodbridge, Monday, April 22, 2024

On schedule for the next Prince William Art Society meeting held on Monday, April 22 at 7:30pm will be local artist Michele Frantz. All are welcome to attend and the PWAS artists are always, of any and all skill levels.

Michele Frantz is the Guest Speaker

If you are interested in printmaking without a bunch of expensive supplies, you'll enjoy April's program on monoprints. Professional artist Michele Frantz will share some collagraphs (where a printing plate is made by gluing various items to a piece of cardboard) as well as demonstrating some ways to pull prints from a Gelli plate. We'll get to see examples of some of the effects that can be achieved and hear experience driven advice on materials, as well as learn the difference between a monotype and a monoprint.

Michele says "I've been intrigued by printmaking ever since being introduced to it in college, but have only recently taken them up again. For some reason, I just love the flatness of color I get with prints; it's so different from the way I paint".She has been an active member of the Manassas art scene for many years and is a well known art instructor. You can check out some of her work (and play) on her Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ArcadiaAS

Michele is also the founding member of the p-ART-ners art group, a current or former member of the Art Guild of Clifton, the Prince William Art Society, the Manassas Art Guild, and the Blue Ridge Art Guild. You can read more about her at Arcadia Art Studio.

The Prince William Art Society meetings are free and open to the public - who are invited to attend. Meetings begin at 7:30 pm at the Tall Oaks Community Center, 12298 Cotton Mill Dr., Lake Ridge VA 22192. We hope to see you there!

May 4, 2024 UPDATE: Due to unforeseen circumstances, this meeting had to be cancelled and the guest speaker has been rescheduled for the June 24th PWAS Meeting.

Post 260: Open Space Arts - Michelle Frantz and Tony Muller Workshops

Open Space Arts - Michele Frantz and Tony Muller Workshops

Saturday, November 12, 2022 Art classes at Open Space Arts at 15000 #140 Potomac Town Center, Woodbridge, VA. Keep an eye out on Prince William Art Society's website at http://princewilliamartsociety.com, this blog, or come by the gallery.

Michele Frantz's Class on Waterscapes in Pastels Workshop

Michele Frantz led a workshop on pastels for a group of adults from 12-4pm today. There is a classroom/workroom at the back of the gallery which Open Space Arts uses for many purposes - such as workshops! Here are a few pictures from the pastel class.

Quote from Brenda: Michelle provided a very comprehensive workshop where we learned about different possible approaches to pastels. We explored the different brands of pastels for quality and effect.

Michele also provided a unique piece of sanded paper especially designed for pastel use which was new to me. I took home a pastel painting finished during the workshop. It was fun pulling out my old pastels, taking a refresher and meeting new artists.

Tony Muller's Class on Augmented Reality in the Art World

In the meantime, in the front of the gallery, Tony Muller led a discussion on Augmented Reality in the Art World. I'll create another post about his class coming up this week. From Tony:

"We first discussed the history of AR, what it is, and what it's not. Then a quick overview of how it's being used on every day life.

Then we explored the historical use of AR in various art forms - dance, theatre, and finally static gallery pieces.

The last bit of the workshop provided 3 examples of AR-enhanced artworks using the app Artivive."

Look for the upcoming presentation notes from Tony this week.

Post 206: Michele Frantz - Landscapes in Pastel Workshop

Michele Frantz - Landscapes in Pastel Workshop

The Prince William Art Society (PWAS) and at Open Space Arts is hosting a selection of workshops and classes on multiple art mediums and topics.

Please see the website at https://www.princewilliamartsociety.com/workshops for all of the options!

About Michele Frantz

Michele Frantz thinks of her art as an act of sharing, a desire to let other people see as she sees, and feel as she feels about a subject. A transplanted Californian, Michele began her career as an artist after receiving a bachelor’s degree in graphic arts. Originally dividing her time between desktop publishing and painting, she entered her first juried fine art show, and placed third. Encouraged by this success, Michele began to focus on fine art, and has since become accomplished in a variety of media, including watercolor, acrylics, pastels and colored pencil. Her work has received awards in several competitions, and she is honored to be a recipient of the the Prince William County Arts Council's Seefeldt Award for Arts Excellence.

Michele eventually decided to put her education and experience to use teaching others, and currently teaches a variety of media at several locations in the area. As an instructor, she believes what you paint is less important than simply relishing the act of painting, and encourages her students to find their own style and modes of expression.
