Post 79: Move Over Black Friday, Artists Sunday is November 28

Move Over Black Friday, Artists Sunday is November 28

More than 500 communities across the United States have come together for the second year to champion local artists and promote the giving of the arts this holiday season. Communities from coast-to-coast, large and small, are celebrating Artists Sunday on Nov 28, 2021 by highlighting local artists, creators and makers and promoting the giving of artistic items and experiences for the holidays. Details below. Please let me know if I can answer any questions. Happy Thanksgiving.

Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Artists Sunday

Sunday November 28, the Sunday after Thanksgiving, is Artists Sunday, the day to shop with local artists, creators, and makers. More than 550 communities and 4,200 individual artists, artisans and craftspeople are participating in the nationwide art-shopping movement, now in its second year.

A gift of the arts makes a heartfelt connection with friends and loved ones, while supporting local artists and boosting the local economy. Consumers can shop from a full range of art, hand-crafted items, experiences, and performances, finding a wide range of creative items that are both practical and beautiful.

If consumers cannot find local artists in their community, they can visit the Artists Sunday Online Directory and search for artists by location and the types of craft. The site also features an Events and Promotions Calendar with both online and in-person events as well as special offers and deals on a wide range of art that fits any budget.

“Give something special, unique, and handcrafted this holiday season and support local artists and the local economy,” said Artists Sunday founder Christopher V. Sherman. “Communities from coast-to-coast, large and small, are celebrating Artists Sunday on Nov 28, 2021 by highlighting local artists, creators and makers and promoting the giving of artistic items and experiences for the holidays.”

Artists Sunday is positioned during the year’s busiest holiday shopping weekend, Artists Sunday, falls between Black Friday, Small Business Saturday® and Cyber Monday. Artists Sunday unites artists and communities across the country, all promoting purchases from local artisans.

I find that when I’m working on a project my listening habits vary depending on the time of day or night and my mood. When I am in a music mood I will listen to a playlist on Spotify, or an old iTunes playlist on my phone or even some of my husbands music that I have on my phone. (Thank goodness for cell phones, right?)

My selections will run from 60’s-70’s R&B, old Soul music, Country, some rock n roll, to Spa music, inspirational music, mellow instrumentals. One of my playlists is labeled “Makes me dance”. Another is “Mellow Mix”. So, as you can see, I’m all over the place. Depends on what I need at the time. Sometimes I need calm, soft. Sometimes I want something I can sing along with. Sometimes I want to know what I’m going to hear (the artist, the songs, etc.) Other times I want to be surprised.

On occasion, if I’m working at night, I may turn on the TV to half-watch and listen to a favorite show.

But tonight, as I type this, I am listening to my husband play guitar downstairs. It’s a beautiful sound.

I like to listen to easy listening music while I am painting from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Occasionally I have various music playing but most of the time I have the TV on a favorite channel and have half an ear to it. I am one of those that always has some background "noise" on in some shape or form. Much like Betty above, I might have some 70's R&B and old Soul music, some classic rock and my apologies but I loved the disco era which feeds my electronica fondness today I think.

A sort of 'relaxing' electronic music I thoroughly enjoy is listening to Above and Beyond.

Sometimes a sing-along is necessary too. I have to remember if the window is open or not, I don't want to scare the neighbors.

Post 73: How Far Has Your Art Traveled?

How Far Has Your Art Traveled?

I haven't sold any artwork internationally as yet, have you? The farthest I have shipped a painting is to West Valley City, Utah and to Dallas, Texas thus far.

Once some of your artwork sells, you may never see it again - in person, of course. I heard a few artists talking recently about artwork they have shipped and I agree with them, I ask for a picture from the new owner of the piece with the artwork or where the artwork is hung. And sometimes the buyer will send me a photo, too. It is wonderful to see someone enjoying what you created - and where it now lives.

Even when your artwork has sold at a gallery or art show, it could still travel far, far away...

A small pause for a few minutes...(I'm dwelling on the artwork that has moved on.)

That also lends to making sure your artwork is signed so that it is obvious who created it so that wherever that artwork is, when someone asks about where it came from or who did it, they will see. If someone Google's your name, will they be able to find out more about the artist that created the work or maybe they want you to paint something for them too?

And make sure you have some great photos of ALL of your artwork - you may still be able to make money off the original if you have great pictures so you can have prints made.

Here are a few art pieces that I have shipped:

"Just Look Up" is on its way to Utah

"Lovely Lavender" is in Pennington, New Jersey

"A Seashore Day" is in Dallas, Texas

"Giraffe Skin Pattern" is in Virginia Beach, Virginia

"African Violets in a Terracotta Pot" is in Churchville, Virginia

How far has your artwork traveled so far? Do you have an interesting story about shipping your artwork or where your artwork is now to share?

By the way, if you are an owner of my artwork, THANK YOU!! I (would) LOVE to see you with the artwork, or where you have it hung!
