Flower Show at OSA People's Choice Winners for May-June 2023

The current art show at the Open Space Arts gallery at 15000 #140 Potomac Town Center, Woodbridge, VA has been running between May 3 and will close June 18, 2023. At each art show we have the visitors vote on their favorite art piece and drop the little cards in the People's Choice box. Well, the public voted and we LOVE announcing the winners!

You Came, You Saw, You Voted - AND Some You Took Home!

It's getting closer to the time that this show will wrap up, which means we count all those votes in the People's Choice Voting Box. Wow, this has been our most successful show ever. TONS of visitors and gosh, have they enjoyed the show. And some pieces have found new homes!

And this is how you voted your favorite art pieces currently hanging at the gallery:

Post 357: PWAS Spotlight Artist Mandy R. Kennedy

PWAS Spotlight Artist Amanda R. Kennedy

The Artistry Spin Blog has started a series for Prince William Art Society (PWAS) members called "Spotlight Artists", where those artists that want to be featured will submit a prearranged template for posting here and spread on our PWAS social media sites.

This week's featured PWAS Spotlight Artist...

Amanda R. Kennedy

Date: 6/6/2023

Artist Style: Realistic, Modern, and Abstract painting

Artist Mediums: Acrylic, Watercolor & Ink

Artist Bio:

As a little girl, growing up in Richmond, Virginia, Mandy watched her mother paint for hours and quickly learned from her passion and skill. She began painting at the age of 8. Mandy earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she studied Literature, Art, and Early Child Education. Being a part of the VCU culture helped develop her skills as an artist and introduced her to the fine arts community that surrounds the downtown Richmond area. She has commissioned several murals in the Richmond area before moving in 2005 for Germany.

While living abroad, she was able to explore and enjoy some of the most amazing museums and historical art, including the Louvre, the Sistine Chapel, and Van Gogh’s Museum. Mandy has been an elementary school teacher for 23 years in the states and overseas, while painting as a hobby, using all of her experiences as inspiration. She currently commissions art and participates in local art shows. She continues to seek fresh challenges in her craft and enjoys meeting new friends in the art community.

Artist’s Awards:

Mandy has received recognition for her contributions to the art community in Richmond, VA by being presented with a sidewalk brick in Shockoe Bottom.

Post 355: PWAS at Occoquan RiverFest 2023

PWAS at Occoquan RiverFest 2023

The Prince William Art Society has been active in participating in the Occoquan Arts and Crafts Festivals for many years and this year we took part in the June RiverFest Arts and Crafts show.

A Great Weekend in Occoquan!

PWAS can generally be found on Union Street since I've been a member of PWAS beginning in early 2021. We've been on both ends of the street and now both sides of Union Street. For RiverFest, we were on the corner of Union and Commerce and boy, was Saturday HOT!! Not as hot as the day before but we were all baked. Sunblock was shared by all.

Sunday was MUCH cooler, partly cloudy. We had a good weekend and no, that was NOT thunder around 3:00 on Sunday. That was a sonic boom from some jets scrambled because of an incident over Washington DC.

Sunday, June 5, 2023. PWAS Members at Occoquan RiverFest on Sunday afternoon (l-r) Fatima Batool, Donna Liguria, Kelly Haneklau, Kyran McCann, Ken Meardon, Tony Muller, Robert Dew, Richard Tyler. Not pictured Susan Furr, Evelyn Chatters, Helen Burroughs, and Mandy Kennedy

Looking down Union Street to Mill Street. We especially enjoyed the puppies with booties to protect their paws

Definitely need a person in front of the tent! Kelly Haneklau is pictured being our PWAS "hawker" handing out Open Space Arts Gallery and show flyers

Post 352: What's on Your Easel, PWAS?

What's on Your Easel, PWAS?

The creative art group members nearly always have something they are working on. Occasionally several things at once too. So my often asked question of the Prince William Art Society (PWAS) members is what are they working on now (what's on your easel)?

I know for me, when I first started the article, all I had was a blank canvas with an idea, prior to this blog post question hitting the Inbox. Then I was able to jump in and start with some mini works along with a larger piece. For some artists, a title for their work comes after the piece starts coming together. Here are the answers from some of the members, in various stages of progress...

Elizabeth Stathis

"The General's House" Slated for the next issue of a community magazine. Winsor & Newton cake watercolors & Micron Pen on Arches 140lb cold press watercolor block. 8" X 10"

Sue Rosenbaum

“The Currant”.  It represents a frozen river that is thawing quickly with the warm early spring sun. 8 x 8 cold pressed watercolor paper with Alcohol inks and Alloy (acts a little like silver leafing) Variety of blue artists papers to represent the water.

The Lunar new year stamp represents new beginnings, the two butterflies represent transformations, the Ruth Asawa modernist sculptor stamp represents creativity!

Michael Kent

"George Gershwin" 20x16 Oil on canvas

Saul Roldan

"A Life that Will Never Be" 36x48 Oil

Otis Stanley

Untitled currently, 16x20, currently in charcoal, Undecided about oil or acrylic

Richard B. Tyler (RBT)

"Lady of The Rose Field" Medium: acrylic and watercolor paint Size: 18 x 24

Donna Liguria

Why work on only one at a time?  Minis are an easy acrylic painting fill in while another work is drying..9x12 "Woodland Stream", Two 3x4 Mini cat paintings, Two 4x4 "Lavender" paintings, and one tiny Mini 3x4 painting for a friend of a North Carolina light house and her 2 little dogs.

How do you handle juggling multiple art pieces at one? Do you?
