Spotlight on PWAS Artist Saul Roldan

The Artistry Spin Blog has started a series for Prince William Art Society (PWAS) members called "Spotlight Artists", where those artists that want to be featured will submit a prearranged template for posting here and spread on our PWAS social media sites.

Let's get know know...

Saul Roldan

Date: 3/31/2023

Artist Style: classic realism

Artist Mediums: Oil

Artist Bio:

Saul Roldan, born in Brooklyn NY, living in Virginia, is a student of art, of the mystery present in light and shadow. He finds in it the poetry of painting. It is like the notes in music, the harmonious balance between high and low notes. His painting reflects his love for Rembrandt and Caravaggio. In some of his works, the influence of Dalí's surrealism can also be seen. He tries to capture reality, but not the reality of photographic mechanical Hyperrealism. His passion is figurative art: the human body, portrait and still life.

Post 332: Great OSA Visit from NVCC Art Class

Great OSA Visit from NVCC Art Class

Thursday, April 13, 2023. Open Space Arts at Stonebridge hosted a local art class visit today, visiting the art show for "Emerging Artists". This art show is up from March 29 to April 30, so come by and see it ASAP!

Local Art Gallery Field Trip

Today's visit from NVCC's art class went very well.  There were a total of 19 (professor plus 18 students) who visited.  We had a good discussion with the students asking many questions about how the gallery worked, preparing and submitting art, pricing art and lots more.  They spent almost an hour at the gallery and had plenty of time to view the art on display.
I explained the benefits of PWAS membership and encouraged them to join and participate in future calls for art (not just the student calls).  The students and the professor all seemed impressed with the gallery and appreciative of the visit.  It was nice to see a crowd of folks in the gallery talking about art.

The Open Space Gallery is locate in the Stonebridge Shopping Center in between "Ulta" and "The Loft" at 15000 Potomac Town Pl, Woodbridge, VA 22191, unit 400. Post 330: Spotlight on PWAS Artist Nicole Fisher

Spotlight on PWAS Artist Nicole Fisher

The Artistry Spin Blog has started a series for Prince William Art Society (PWAS) members called "Spotlight Artists", where those artists that want to be featured will submit a prearranged template for posting here and spread on our PWAS social media sites.

Let's get know know...

Nicole Fisher

Date: April 1, 2023

Artist Style: abstract expressionism

Artist Mediums: acrylic, fluid acrylic, acrylic ink

Artist Bio:

Nicole M Fisher is an abstract painter who lives and works in Virginia. Art has always been in her blood. From an early age she showed an interest in art and in particular painting. Her father built her first easel as a teenager. Growing up in Pennsylvania, she spent much of her time attending art classes, learning the history, theory, and techniques of painting at Germantown Friends School, Moore College of Art, Drexel University, and Chestnut Hill College.

Nicole’s palettes are inspired by life. The colors of nature… the ocean, birds, flowers and plants are huge influences on her color choices. Other color influences include an elegantly designed room, the colors of our emotions, and the music that commits memories into our minds and sparks our hearts to feel. Often a photograph or a song will spark her mood. Or she’ll see a color palette in nature that she just can’t resist! Nicole’s paintings are very intuitive. She doesn’t plan her end composition ahead of time. Nicole allows the paintings to unfold as they see fit. Shapes and texture help to create the composition of her paintings. Nicole has always been intrigued by geometry. This is reflected in her use of bold lines and shapes in many of her paintings. Nicole’s paintings are layered gems. Using palette knives, brushes in varied sizes, scrapers, and many other found objects she adds texture and depth to the layers of her paintings. Fluid acrylic paint and acrylic inks are often used to add a bit of softness and playfulness to balance out the bold geometric shapes that are prevalent in her pieces.
