Post 342: Spotlight on PWAS Artist Staci Blanchard
Spotlight on PWAS Artist Staci Blanchard
The Artistry Spin Blog has started a series for Prince William Art Society (PWAS) members called "Spotlight Artists", where those artists that want to be featured will submit a prearranged template for posting here and spread on our PWAS social media sites.
This week's featured PWAS Spotlight Artist...
Staci Blanchard
Date: 4/26/2023
Artist Style: Abstract, pour painting
Artist Mediums: Acrylic
Artist Bio:
Staci has worn many hats in her 52 years. She is a Desert Storm Navy Veteran; she was a respiratory therapist and paralegal at different times. Staci turned to art about 6 years ago for mental health reasons and hasn’t looked back. She found her passion in fluid art/paint pouring.
This style of painting forces the artist to let the paint lead and give up control; when life gets crazy and you find yourself constantly trying to “control” everything, it is freeing to let go with the paint. Staci has recently started playing with abstract painting and discovering more of the artist inside.
Artist’s Awards:
Staci is currently the Vice President of PWAS
Artist PWAS Member Since:
August 2021
Artist’s Social Media:

Post 341: PWAS Member Helen Burroughs Talks Fiber Art
PWAS Member Helen Burroughs Talks Fiber Art
Monday, April 24, 2023. Our featured guest artist this month was fellow Prince William Art Society member Helen Joyce Burroughs. Helen showed off some previous fiber art works she has created and gave many helpful tips on how to get started when creating and combining fiber and paint.

One of the tips Helen mentioned that stood out to me was about combining a painted background on the canvas with silk ribbon. Using gesso on your canvas will make the artwork FAR more difficult to do. You would be better off purchasing ungesso'd, unstretched canvas and having it stretched. The needle getting through a gesso'd canvas...well, you will have your work cut out for you there!
Open Space Arts Call for Art for "Threads"
As was mentioned in the meeting, sometime in August - September (if not earlier) a call for art will go out for the art show at Open Space Arts called "Threads". This show will feature fine creative arts with fiber/materials. Very often, these types of artworks take a lot of time to create - so this is a heads up for this show so you can plan your entries. The show will run October 18 to November 12, 2023.

She explains this process in a YouTube interview with the McLean Textile Gallery which can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/O1Xkv8wHTew and will share some of her unique ways of interacting with the surface of her works to introduce texture and the unexpected.

Post 338: Artist Inventory Sale and OSA May Art Show
Artist Inventory Sale and OSA May Art Show
A date change for the Artist Inventory Sale in Manassas this weekend and the artists juried into the next Open Space Art Gallery Art Show for May. The reception for the May show is SATURDAY, May 6, 2023 at 6:30 for this, our largest art show so far!
Artist Inventory Sale in Manassas
Several PWAS members will have spots at the Manassas Artist Inventory Sale in downtown Manassas on SUNDAY, April 23, 2023. The date for this show was changed because the weather on Saturday is reported to be BLAH. Although held under the Harris Pavilion (9201 Center St, Manassas, VA 20110), who wants their art out in a down pour, right?
This is a very nice show to be in and to visit, run by a local artist Mike Flynn, and it is held twice a year, in the Spring and the Fall. Come out for a visit on Sunday between 12 and 4.
Open Space Arts Gallery "April Showers Bring May Flowers" Art Show
PWAS and OSA (Open Space Arts) are celebrating our largest art show yet to be held in the gallery! We are especially excited for this show!
"Nature gives to every time and season some beauties of its own." — Charles Dickens
The OSA jurors have been busy viewing 354 art works submitted by 54 artists. We selected 206 beautiful works from this group to showcase at Open Space Arts Gallery from May 3 - June 18, 2023. The show is called "April Showers Bring May Flowers" with the art reception for this show held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 6:30 pm. This should be a big event for the gallery and ALL our artists and PWAS members are requested to attend.
Please join us as we celebrate the remarkable artistic images of flowers, growing things and the Spring weather that will be on display. If you LOVE supporting the arts, especially LOCAL art, and have a spot on your wall open for something artistically special, come by the gallery!
As you know, "the early bird gets the worm".
Congratulations to the following 50 juried recipients of the May Exhibition at Open Space Arts Gallery.
A lot of local talent and so many diverse styles! Congratulations to all that were selected. You will see flowers of every sort, including cherry blossoms, hydrangeas, daffodils, cornflowers, roses, hollyhocks, orchids, African violets, day lilies, lavender, tulips and wonderful gardens. If only we had paints with the smell of the blooms being featured!
