Otis creates work that reflects the art of simply living. His work captures images that reflect his culture and heritage. Otis enjoys inviting viewers to explore his work and engage in conversation about each piece. Often painting in monochromatic colors, Otis stands alone in presenting his work in an often otherwise room of color.

Artist’s Awards:

Otis is a two time winner of the People’ Choice Award at the Open Space Art, (Dready, 2-2022 and Sultry, 2-2023) He also placed 2^nd at the annual Veteran’s Show in Winchester, Va. for his entry of Going Home, (11-2022)

Post 336: Emerging Artists at Open Space Arts

Emerging Artists at Open Space Arts

This month's art show at Open Space Arts (OSA) at Stonebridge is "Emerging Artists" which features young artists, ages 15 to 25 in Prince William County. The artists on display are asked to give some of their time on weekends to volunteer at the gallery, helping them to learn even more about the business side of art as well as build confidence in talking about their art.

Meet the Artists

This is the second art show at OSA featuring young local artists, and it will not be the last. We have a few of last year's artists once again, along with some new faces. It has been such a pleasure volunteering with these artists and the many questions they have about all things art. The show runs between March 29 and April 30 at 15000 #140 Potomac Town Center, Woodbridge, VA.

Visitors  spoke  with Samantha about her clay bikini artwork. Samantha's message  was about "body positivity". Visitors  also spoke with L.A  about  the motivation and significance  of his art. - Evelyn Chatters

Post 335: When Open Space Arts First Opened

When Open Space Arts First Opened

Open Space Arts is celebrating one full year of being open, the anniversary date is Saturday, April 2, 2022. What you might not know is that the Prince William Art Society were actually invited to show art in the space the weekend after Thanksgiving, 2021. The art gallery was such a success on that weekend in November, that we were invited to keep the gallery open through the first few weeks of December 2021 as well.

The Beginning of a Gallery

While the Prince William Art Society (PWAS) members were all volunteering in the gallery, Otis Stanley also set up a canvas at the front of the space and invited children to paint along with him...So did you ever wonder what happened to that painting?

This is the painting that was started when we first opened OSA, by children that came in with their parents. I entitled it Sarah and the Sheep Clouds. - Otis Stanley

It is that time of year again in Prince William County where we vote. Nope, not on politics. On what we all love in PWC - from restaurant and businesses to art galleries and artists.

Open Space Arts at Stonebridge

On April 2, 2023, Open Space Arts (OSA) celebrated one full year of being open - allowing artists in the county the opportunity to show their art and to offer it for sale. We've had hundreds of artists and thousands of visitors come to see the artwork on display. 

The artwork changes approximately every 4 - 6 weeks and we've had oil paintings, acrylic paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry and so much more, in every shape and size. Come and see.

Artist Bio:

Saul Roldan, born in Brooklyn NY, living in Virginia, is a student of art, of the mystery present in light and shadow. He finds in it the poetry of painting. It is like the notes in music, the harmonious balance between high and low notes. His painting reflects his love for Rembrandt and Caravaggio. In some of his works, the influence of Dalí's surrealism can also be seen. He tries to capture reality, but not the reality of photographic mechanical Hyperrealism. His passion is figurative art: the human body, portrait and still life.

Post 332: Great OSA Visit from NVCC Art Class

Great OSA Visit from NVCC Art Class

Thursday, April 13, 2023. Open Space Arts at Stonebridge hosted a local art class visit today, visiting the art show for "Emerging Artists". This art show is up from March 29 to April 30, so come by and see it ASAP!

Local Art Gallery Field Trip

Today's visit from NVCC's art class went very well.  There were a total of 19 (professor plus 18 students) who visited.  We had a good discussion with the students asking many questions about how the gallery worked, preparing and submitting art, pricing art and lots more.  They spent almost an hour at the gallery and had plenty of time to view the art on display.

I explained the benefits of PWAS membership and encouraged them to join and participate in future calls for art (not just the student calls).  The students and the professor all seemed impressed with the gallery and appreciative of the visit.  It was nice to see a crowd of folks in the gallery talking about art.
