Post 523: PWAS at 3 Fox Winery

PWAS at Three Fox Winery

Monday, December 16, 2024. The Prince William Art Society is showing art at the Three Fox Vineyard and Brewery located at Delaplane, Virginia.

Wineries are Great Places!

Yes, they are! Not only are there an abundance of wineries (and breweries) here in Virginia with beautiful grounds, views, tasting rooms, patios and decks, the delicious drinks, often nibbles and snacks, restaurants, and/or the occasional food trucks make for particularly wonderful places for events large and small. Or a picnic on a relaxing afternoon. And when there is enough wall space - many of these destinations offer a great place to show art! For viewing and for purchasing.

https://www.threefoxvineyards.com/

The Prince William Art Society (PWAS) was recently given the opportunity for a Call for Art to our members to enter to show their artwork at the Three Fox Vineyard and Brewery located at 10100 Three Fox Lane, Delaplane, VA 20144. The selected art was hung at the vineyard on Monday, December 16 and will remain on display until March 9, 2025.

The below photo from PWAS member Sandra McClelland Lewin shows the art on display on the second story - and you may spot your artwork here, but not shown is around the corner(s) where other art pieces are hung.

The following PWAS artists are showing art at this show:
Donna Liguria
Katie Keller Dugan
Sheri Herrick
Bettie Sperty
Maria Briganti
Sandra Lewin
Evelyn Chatters
Nicole goble
Mark Murphy
Larry Burch
Kelly Hanaklau
Ana Quispe

Tom Payne

If you are planning a road trip to enjoy some art and some beverages, here are the Vineyard hours:

Thursday: 2PM - 8PM
Friday: 12PM - 8PM
Saturday: 11AM- 7PM
Sunday: 12PM - 6PM

Post 522: Artist Inventory Sale at the ARTfactory Sat Dec 14, 2024

Artist Inventory Sale at the ARTfactory Sat, Dec 14, 2024

Saturday, December 14, 2024. The Prince William Art Society (PWAS) took part in the Artist Inventory Sale which was held this year inside the ARTfactory at 9419 Battle Street, Manassas, Virginia. It was a wonderful event with a wide variety of artists and art styles.

Shop for Local Art

There was a lot going on in Manassas that day both inside and outside of the ARTfactory! The Manassas train station parking lot was filled with many vendors selling their wares and munchies. There was the Christmas train so that kids could meet Santa Claus and review their Christmas lists. There was the inevitable road blocks. And inside the ARTfactory gallery - many local art groups and artists also selling their original artworks - where it was WARM inside!

There were 10 PWAS Members set up and sharing space showing quite the variety of art that visitors enjoyed viewing and purchasing.

The PWAS members participating at our PWAS table were:

Staci Blanchard
Kelly Haneklau
Mark Murphy
Richard Tyler
Nicole Fisher
Ana Quispe
Carol Noboa
Seth Hatfield
Nicole Goble
Donna Liguria

Click on the image to enlarge your view. Just the diversity with these 10 artists is amazing to see in their styles and mediums - anything from acrylics, watercolors, photography, oils and mixed media. There was tiny art to much larger works, books, prints, original art, jewelry, mixed media, and of course, Christmas ornaments.

Here are a few pictures that Staci Blanchard took:

Artists Rubbing Elbows

It is always a learning experience in so many ways when having an art group show, especially when a room is filled with multiple art groups and artists. Not only do you get time to catch up with your fellow art group member friends but you can spend some time visiting with the other artists from around the county too. We get to greet friends and sometimes meet for the first time and get to know and be inspired by their art as well. We ask each other questions about what they create, like "how did you do that?" or "what did you use to achieve that?", getting great tips that may help in what we do.

As can often happen, many of the artists are members of multiple art groups. Some of the PWAS members were spread out across the room too.

It was nice to see the Manassas Art Guild (MAG) group and see Laura Lavarnway's annual Santa paintings as well as all of the other MAG members and their beautiful art.

The P-Art-Ners Art Group with Michele Frantz, Patty Gulledge, Mike Flynn (who manages the biannual Artist Inventory Sale [thankyou Mike!]), and Maria Briganti were there with their wonderful works too.

Christine Reilly from the Creative Brush studio had a table with her incredible creations, as well as other local and very talented art creators.

Inspiration and fellowship with other creative souls is a beautiful thing and was much appreciated. A BIG thank you to the ARTfactory, Jordan Exum and to Mike Flynn for hosting this event and we hope that this can happen again in 2025!

Baby, It's COLD Outside PWAS Art

As we move from the oranges, reds and yellows of fall and into the colder temperatures of winter and somewhat naked trees, let's take a look at a few pieces of art by our Prince William Art Society artists depicting the Christmas season, winter, ice, snow, etc. I asked the PWAS members to share their "COLD season" art and here are a few of them...

Acrylic Artist, Donna Liguria

"The White House Having a White Christmas" 9x12 in acrylics has sold but prints are available in my Etsy Shop at https://donnaliguriaart.etsy.com

I have a series of mini artworks that are Christmas themed as well as tiny canvases made into Christmas ornaments to hang on a tree.

Here is a three-piece series called Black Ice - featuring 3 4x12 inch canvases with icicles.

Check out a Book and the Art at the Montclair Library

The Prince William Art Society art group has artworks by our members now showing at the Montclair Library from Saturday, November 2, 2024 through about December 31, 2024. See the show at 5049 Waterway Dr, Montclair, VA 22025 and while browsing for a great book, take the time to also browse the delightful art presented in the library.

Take a Peek at the Art Display

The Prince William Art Society would love to see you go by the library itself to see the art in person. The photos online just never do an art piece justice to truly see the impact of art as you are probably aware. Nothing like viewing it from a few paces away or across the room to feel the colors, see the textures, and have the piece speak to you.

A big thank you to Lena for helping to literally get the art off the ground, as well as Sandra and Staci.

Post 517: Mixed Media Class with Penny Shaw

Mixed Media Class with Penny Shaw

A Mixed Media Workshop from the Prince William Art Society art group was given by Penny Shaw on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 12-4pm.This workshop is the 9th in a series of 10 classes offered by the group in 2024 that have been offered free to the public.

Mixed Media Art Workshop

This beginning mixed media class explored the use of various papers, permanent markers, paint pens and assorted objects to create compositions found in nature.  Students observed images of reference photos learned to break them into background, middle ground, and foreground sections.  Students were encouraged to bring their favorite nature photos to class to use as a reference image. This class was led by Penny Shaw, an accomplished Woodbridge area artist. This event was held at the Chinn Park Library.

Chinn Park Library is at 13065 Chinn Park Drive, Woodbridge, VA 22192

Projects in Progress

The students enjoyed the class! It was challenging but fun. Several Prince William Art Society members were in attendance as well as area artists.

As you can see from the mixed media on display, these are all works that will be in progress for awhile. In Penny's workshop today, she had her students begin their landscapes with the torn paper pieces that were used with Modge Podge. The papers will need to all dry about 8 hours before moving to any next steps.

Next steps could include about anything, too. As stated above, the background and potentially the middle ground of the artwork were started but must dry before moving to the foreground and details. Anything can be added including paint, ink, pens, crayons, acrylic pens, fabric, more paper, kitchen sinks. Also we will need to trim the edges as the papers are not always attached exactly straight on the edge of the paper.

I would LOVE to see the student's pictures once they have completed their artwork - be sure and send me a photo!

And thank you Penny! A whole new world of art just opened!

Upcoming PWAS Workshops

Watch for the next workshops offered by the Prince William Art Society, they tend to fill up fast. Classes are free, but spaces are limited, and you must register at:  https://www.princewilliamartsociety.com/register. Watch the website and this blog for news on up coming events. 2025 is lining up a roster of workshops too!
