Post 213: Chili Cookoff and Fall Festival Sept 10, 2022 at Stonebridge

Chili Cookoff and Fall Festival Sept 10, 2022 at Stonebridge

A beautiful, warm early September day began at Stonebridge in front of Open Space Arts with PWAS artists scurrying about with their colorful canvases.

Popup Art Show on the Sidewalk

Prince William Art Society (PWAS) members began arriving Saturday morning of September 10, 2022 around 8:30 am. The necessary art show items of tents, gridwalls, stands, hardware et al arise from the cement under those tents. Once placement of the stands is up, the artwork, the print stands, the prints all go into place. The art labels are furiously written and attached with the names of the artists, the name of the artwork, the medium and the asking price.

At 11 am, the Chili Cookoff and Fall Festival begins. The street is FILLED with the many other vendors that have arrived early and set up with their wares as well, with the Chili contenders placed farther up the street. The many, many visitors begin their arrival to enjoy the sights, the sounds, the smells and tastes of the day.

Here are a few shots of the PWAS Popup Show set up in front of Open Space Arts at Stonebridge.

Post 212: Meet a PWAS Member: Michelle Baker

Meet a PWAS Member: Michelle Baker

Once an Artist, Always an Artist

Michelle Baker was always a creative person. In fact, she studied art as a child and she minored in art in college. But then professional duties and life got in the way, and art took a back seat—until 2020.

A confluence of events paved the way for Michelle to renew her dedication to art: the pandemic, leaving her career as a journalist, and her "nest" emptying out. A conversation with someone in 2020 inspired her to pick up her brushes, paints, and inks again. As this individual pointed out to Michelle, "Once an artist, always an artist."

Post 209: PWAS Meeting Sept 26 Program Tips and Tricks

PWAS Meeting Sept 26, 2022 Program: Tips and Tricks

The Prince William Art Society (PWAS) holds monthly meetings which are (*usually) held at Tall Oaks Community Center 12298 Cotton Mill Dr. Woodbridge, Va

The Program Is Tips and Tricks with Mark Murphy

The PWAS will hold a membership meeting at Tall Oaks Community Center on September 26th at 7:30pm. Following the business meeting there will be a program lead by member artist Mark Murphy.

Mark says "As I learn more about exhibiting and selling my art, I have figured out a few things that may be helpful to others.  I'll talk about making prints, establishing a business entity, social media presence, websites, marketing materials, and related topics.  We'll also chat about public domain content (reference photos below).  I'm hoping these discussions will inspire others to share what they have learned as well.

Meetings are free and open to everyone in the community. Come listen and participate in this discussion with fellow PWAS members and guests.

*PWAS Meetings are held at Tall Oaks, unless otherwise noted on https://www.princewilliamartsociety.com/
