Post 311: PWAS Member Upcoming Exhibitions

PWAS Member Upcoming Exhibitions

An email goes out to our Prince William Art Society members at least once a month asking a question that the artists are free to answer if they have time. Past questions have included anything as simple as what they are currently working on, to what is their favorite art tool in their studio, what is their favorite art quote and more.

What Upcoming Exhibits are You Entered In or Planning to Enter?

These are the members that wanted to share their responses with you this go around.

Mark Murphy

Mark had 3 pieces accepted to Art at the Mill, all 11x14 watercolors:

Katherine Owens

This piece is titled Amber Rose, 36x24 mixed media on canvas. I just submitted this to Fredericksburg Center for Creative Arts For the April show called Artist Choice. I should hear this week whether or not it is accepted.

Donna Liguria

Currently, I am in the Open Space Arts March 2023 art show in Woodbridge. Hopefully in the upcoming Art at the Mill in Millwood, Virginia, the May OSA Flower and the Spring Tall Oaks Community Center art shows. https://donnaliguriaart.com

Artist Reception: Sunday April 30, 2023 2-5 pm

Art Show: Saturday April 22 through Sunday, May 7, 2023

Congratulations to all!  It is a success when chosen to appear in any art show.

In theatre, when someone goes out on stage you wish them "Break a leg!" This is the theatrical slang for "Good Luck!" For an art show, what would be the artful slang for best wishes and success for an art show?

Break a Paintbrush?

Make it muddy?

Tear a canvas?

Do you have one? Nonetheless, let's wish them all well!

Post 310: PWAS March 27, 2023 Meeting and Program

PWAS March 27, 2023 Meeting and Program

On March 27th at 7:30 pm the Prince William Art Society will meet at the Tall Oaks Community Center at 12298 Cotton Mill Dr, Woodbridge, VA 22192 for a business meeting and program "Art On The Run". The PWAS will host guest Fine Artist Marni Maree. Marni is a watercolor artist who loves to paint, teach and travel.

Art on the Run

The Prince William Art Society meets at the Tall Oaks Community Center for a monthly business meeting and program. The program for March 2023 is "Art On The Run" and will feature the fine art guest, Marni Maree. Marni is a watercolor artist who loves to paint, teach and travel and she has led many international travel workshops in France, Italy, and on the Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth (in June) as well as Artist Residencies in France and Brazil. She has taught locally at the Workhouse, in her home studio, Green Spring Gardens, Goodwin House, and various other workshops. When the Pandemic hit, Marni immediately pivoted to teaching on Zoom. This has been wonderful and she will continue to teach this way even after it is safe to teach in person again. Her students can attend from all over the world now.

The Prince William Art Society programs are free and open to the public. Everyone is invited to come enjoy the program. Marni will show how she pared down her drawing and watercolor supplies to make it much easier to draw and paint anywhere, especially while traveling. Marni makes her own mini palettes and you can too.

Spring is just around the corner, so being able to paint in new locations with greater ease might be exactly what you need for those fresh landscapes, architectural views and other compositions you've been yearning all winter to produce beyond the walls of your studio space. With the gallery Open Space Arts calling for floral inspired paintings in May there's only a month to get painting! Ms. Maree has YouTube videos on painting flowers from start to finish, as well as art on display at the Lorton Workhouse and online at https://marnimaree.com/.

Some samples of Marni's work...

We'll see you at the meeting - Monday, March 27!

Post 307: Meet Open Space Arts Artists and Art!

Meet Open Space Arts Artists and Art!

Friday, March 3, 2023 - Open Space Arts (OSA), the opening reception was held on a chilly, rainy evening, yet it was attended very well. The art show is called "Page Turning Images Found in Women's Literature" and is open from March 1 to March 26, 2023. There are 29 Prince William County artists with their artwork on display at the gallery, found at 15000 #140 Potomac Town Center, Woodbridge, VA between Ulta and The Loft.

OSA Art Receptions to Meet Local Talent

The Prince William County Arts Council is a sponsor of Open Space Arts to help promote ALL of the arts in Prince William County. The Prince William Art Society (PWAS) is a group of artists in the county that manages the OSA staff of volunteers, the art shows for LOCAL PWC artists, jurying process, art receptions, and art hanging.

Art receptions are tentatively held monthly, typically around the art show opening and thus far, open to the public (free). Often, beverages and snacks/refreshments are offered, and the entertainment will vary. We have had singers, dancers, live music, poetry, readings, and more. Any private receptions or parties will be noted at the door.
