Post 265: Kathy Cornwell's Miriam Ahmed Interview

You'll Never Guess what Miriam Ahmed Uses in her Mixed Media Artwork

PWAS is filled with talented and interesting artists, and Miriam Ahmed exemplifies this perfectly. She is an accomplished graphic designer, professor of graphic design, and visual artist.

I sat down for an inspiring interview with Miriam (posted later in this blog post), and I hope you'll enjoy watching it. We discuss things like:

  • Her history with graphic design, and what it's like to work with young designers
  • Miriam's fascinating research on the intersection of graphic design, ethics, and diversity, as well as the impact of millennials on our culture
  • Miriam's fine art practice and unusual materials
  • Why Miriam joined PWAS
  • How her fine art work differs from her work as a graphic designer
  • And more!

Miriam's Art Reflects Her Love of the Beach

Are you a beach lover? Miriam's fine art practice focuses almost exclusively on the beach, which is part of her personal history. She studies and celebrates the wide variety of textures and colors of sand and shells—and she uses these materials in her visual art!

Miriam juxtaposes different types of sand and shells in her mixed media acrylic artworks. In the interview, she describes how she creates these large-scale artworks when the urge strikes her.

Here are some examples of her beach-inspired artworks:

A Master of Graphic Design

Miriam's graphic design skills are top-notch, and she's been teaching graphic design for over a decade! She has authored many academic papers on graphic design and given lectures on the topic. You can learn more about her work at https://www.miryum.com/
